About the Book: In time for Women’s History Month, THIRTY BELOW (out 3/4/25) tells the gripping, true story of the first all-women’s ascent of Denali in 1970—which was actually the first all-female ascent of any of the world's high peaks. This is also one of the first mainstream adventure/exploration books, a la Into Thin Air and The Wager, featuring women—and written by a woman. By 1970, we had sent men to the moon, and women still hadn’t stood on the highest points on Earth. Popular belief held that they were incapable of withstanding high altitudes, savage elements, and carrying heavy loads. Which made the defiant idea of one climber, Alaskan mountaineer and doctor Grace Hoeman, all the more audacious. Everyone told Grace and her six-woman team that it couldn’t be done. Then, when disaster struck at the worst time on their expedition, the team’s actions would decide not only their fate, but how the world would judge them—and all women’s ability to climb and survive the fiercest mountains. “Full of almost achingly vivid details and mounting friction between complicated, heroic women undertaking great risk in a notoriously exacting environment... readers will be left in awe of the women’s enthrallment to the sport, their determination, and the bittersweet spirit of their life-changing experience. An entrancing tale of a harrowing adventure.” –Kirkus Reviews STARRED Review
