Casino is a beautiful and elegant social dance from Cuba, and its most popular to date. In this workshop series, we will explore the most important concepts of the dance.SATURDAY WORKSHOPS: (workshops held on the 1st floor dancehall at Hotel Louisville)
The workshop is divided into three hours, as follows:
Casino Fundamentals I:
An exploration of what makes casino, casino. We will cover the three basic positions of the dance, as well as core concepts (i.e. traveling steps, pivots, weight shifts, partner spacing, leading with the frame).
Casino Fundamentals II:
We will delve into casino’s most common move in open position (“Pa’ti, pa’mí), and explore pivoting techniques in figures such as “Enchufla”, “Vacílala”, and “Botella”.
Casino Fundamentals III:
We will learn about a lesser-known figure in casino: “Enchufla por la derecha”, followed by how it can be applied to do 80% or more of the turn patterns in casino.
Daybert Linares is one of the foremost experts of Casino dancing in the United States.
Born and raised in Cuba, Daybert has taught Cuban dance in the United States for many years, having held workshops all over the US, including Atlanta, Boston, Baltimore, New York, and Washington, D.C.
He is also the editor of "Son y Casino," the only blog dedicated to both the Cuban dance of casino and son music, which he updates regularly with informative pieces which deal with this small part of Cuban culture.
This will be Daybert's first workshop in Louisville so you don't want to miss this!!
