Every year, the Cascade Blues Association sends one youth band to Memphis to compete in the International Blues Challenge — and it changes everything for the musicians who go. Just ask Sleeper Wave, last year's pick, who rode that momentum straight into Portland's pro music scene.

Sunday, September 7, 2026 4-6pm — HōKŪ Events on Madison
Join blues legend Curtis Salgado for a live jam session and inside look at what it takes to hold your own on a professional stage. Dave Fleschner (IBC mentor since 2017, 2025 competitor) brings years of hard-won wisdom. Plus hear directly from musicians who've done it: Solomon Lamb, Sebastian Fleschner, and Sleeper Wave's Jonah Bradbury and Cameron Kirkman — all IBC/UBMA veterans who'll jam, perform, and share how Memphis launched their careers.
