About this Event
Introduction to Linocut Printmaking Workshop
Curious about linocut printmaking? Spend a relaxed, creative session learning how to design, carve and print your own linocut with guidance from an experienced printmaker.
This beginner friendly workshop will introduce you to the essentials of relief printmaking, taking you step by step from developing an idea through to printing your own small edition using traditional tools, oil based inks and a tabletop press.
Led by Maisie Keller, a Wiltshire based printmaker with a BA in Illustration (Hons) and an MA in Multidisciplinary Printmaking, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn the foundations of lino printing from a practicing artist. Maisie’s work has been exhibited in multiple venues, including the RBSA Print Prize, and she brings both professional experience and a supportive teaching approach to the session.
Throughout the workshop you’ll explore the creative possibilities of linocut while learning practical techniques and experimental methods. By the end of the session, you will have produced a small set of prints and will take home your carved lino block so you can continue printing and experimenting afterwards.
Maximum 8 participants per workshop, ensuring plenty of individual guidance.
During the workshop you will learn:
- How to develop and plan a design suitable for linocut
- Methods for transferring your image onto a lino block
- Safe and effective carving techniques using beginner lino tools
- The fundamentals of relief printing with oil-based inks
- How to ink and print your block using a tabletop press
All materials, tools and inks are provided.
You are very welcome to bring a notebook, sketches, photographs, an digital copy or ideas you’d like to work from, although inspiration will also be available during the session.
Complimentary tea, coffee and soft drinks will be available during the workshop, and participants will also receive 10% off at the on-site café.
No previous experience is required, just curiosity and a willingness to try something new.
