Careta, who are you? explores the power of hybrid cultural representations, drawing from African-Brazilian popular culture and mythology. Through photography, Diego Barbosa brings to life these trickster characters dressed in costumes built through craftwork reminiscent of the same techniques used to make the costumes in Brazilian popular carnaval festivals. Crossing the oceans, the Caretas want to eat at these new crossroads, mixing symbols and blurring cultural borders.
