The 27th Annual Cartee Open is proud to announce we will be celebrating Madi Ramirez and her family. Join us the night before the golf outing on Thursday, July 23rd - at The Cricle Tap for raffles/silent auctions and concert performance by Electric Shock The AC/DC Show starting at 7:30PM. This concert is brought to you by the support of Milltown Coffee and Pleasure Pools & Spas. Not only are these two great local companies sponsoring the concert, they are also gifting every golfer this custom made poker chip ball marker.

Her family shared the following information about Madi. As you will read Madi has had several obstacles in her life but she always chooses happiness over anything that has been thrown her way. Madi is a spunky 20-year-old who faces many diagnoses and daily challenges with incredible strength. At just 2 years old, she was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a condition similar to ALS but affecting children. At the time, it was considered a fatal diagnosis.
By age 11, Madi lost her ability to walk. During that same year, she began experiencing seizures and was later diagnosed with epilepsy, 15Q Duplication, and ADHD. These conditions brought additional challenges, including increased muscle weakness, learning disabilities, and being on the autism spectrum. That year also brought other hardships.
At 11, Madi suffered a fall from her wheelchair that resulted in her losing her four front teeth—something that has required ongoing fixes and dental care over the past 10 years.
At age 12, she underwent spinal fusion surgery, adding yet another obstacle to overcome. After that incredibly difficult period, advancements in science led to a treatment for SMA that has helped stabilize Madi’s condition. While it isn’t a cure, it has prevented further decline and given her more time to live life on her terms.
Madi uses a wheelchair, but she doesn’t let that define her. She embraces life with the same fun, vibrant spirit as any 20-year-old—and through every challenge, she has never lost her beautiful smile. Due to prolonged seizures, Madi also sustained a brain injury and now functions at about a 12-year-old level. She will always need support and will not live fully independently, making caregiving an essential and ongoing part of her life. Thank you for selecting Madi!

WHAT: Two shotgun starts, 7:30am and 1:45pm
AFTER PARTY: The McClellan Stockade in the historic East Village of Davenport
Cost: $95.00 per golfer/$380 per team.

NOTE: Last years’ golfers have first dibs for their spot. They have until May 16 to let us know if they are in. After May 16, we will welcome new teams off of the waiting list.
