Carson Station is a New Orleans based music group that plays crowd-pleasing original songs with a groove, representing many styles. The group has played to enthusiastic crowds in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and Texas, and Illinois. Carson Station has released two albums and an EP, which reflects Mark Carson’s vast songwriting catalogue, representing the best elements of New Orleans, his hometown, and Nashville, where has had many songs cut. The group has currently won grants from the Jazz and Heritage Foundation and the Threadhead Cultural Foundation for their upcoming project, “Ghosts of New Orleans.”Mark Carson has been writing songs and performing for many years. He has played venues and festivals in New Orleans, Nashville, Galveston, Pensacola and elsewhere, including the Bluebird Café, Tipitina’s, and the Maple Leaf, as well as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, and the Pardi Gras and Gulf Coast Days Festivals in New Orleans and Galveston, TX, the Mississippi Songwriter’s Festival in Ocean Springs, and the Pensacola Songwriter Festival.
In addition to getting some songs cut by award-winning and successful New Orleans bands such as Papa Grows Funk, in 2009 Mark got his first Nashville cut. He has had over 40 songs recorded by artists in Nashville, New Orleans, and beyond, and has had several singles played on country radio, as well as other songs recorded in the country, funk, and pop genres.
In late 2016 Mark’s song “Island,” recorded and released as a single by pop artist Svrcina, has over 3,300,000 plays on Spotify, and the lyric video has over 1,300,000 plays on YouTube. His song “John Brown,” recorded by both Papa Grows Funk and Carson Station, has been performed on four continents and is part of the band Papa Grows Funk’s new documentary, “Do U Want It?” Mark co-wrote nine of the 11 songs on John “Papa” Gros’s album, “River’s on Fire” in 2016. His song “Country as Cornbread” was the title track of Red Marlowe’s 2017 EP. Red was runner up on “The Voice” in 2017.
Currently, Mark has several songs recorded by New Orleans-based country group, Chapel Hart, who was named in 2021 as one of CMT’s New Women of Country and who, in 2022, placed 5th in America’s got Talent. Mark has two songs on their release, “The Girls Are Back in Town, that reached #1 on the iTunes country chart twice in 2022. Mark also co-wrote three songs from New Orleans r & b/funk artist John "Papa" Gros's latest release, "Central City."
