A comprehensive and practical half day training in how to embed trauma informed frameworks into music therapy practice.
About this Event

For music therapists supporting people with complex trauma histories, understanding how trauma shapes brain development—and how music can support healing—is essential to delivering effective, developmentally appropriate care.

CARRM for Music Therapist offers an insightful and practical half day training, where registered music therapist Sarah Dunston introduces how the application of Dr. Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) , as well as First Nations frameworks (to support cultural safety) can be incorporated into music therapy contexts across the lifespan.

Grounded in contemporary research on how complex and intergenerational trauma impacts neurobiology, this training equips you with the knowledge and tools to design trauma-informed interventions that foster regulation, relational capacity, healing and growth for clients of all ages.

You will learn how to:

  • Structure music therapy sessions to support nervous system regulation
  • Embed First Nations forwards frameworks into practice
  • Practical demonstration of rhythmic, sensory-rich interventions and activities including drumming, clapstick play, body percussion, movement to music, sensory instrument play ( for nervious system regulation) and more.
  • Discussions on trauma theory and how NMT can be used as an innovative framework for practice.
