MICHAEL WEGNER
Songwriter from Athens GA
**2022 Finalist - Vic Chesnutt "Songwriter Of The Year" Award**
**New Album “Hive Mined” - released Dec 2023**
"The Beatles. Nick Drake. Paul Westerberg. Scott Joplin. Joni Mitchell. Vic Chesnutt. Madonna. Andrew Lloyd Webber. Geddy Lee. Jerry Garcia. Weird Al Yankovic."
What do all these musical entities have in common? They are just a few of Michael Wegner’s primary influences. He believes there's too much wonderful music in the world to confine himself to any one genre.
Since learning piano at age five, Michael has immersed himself in numerous styles of music, rarely letting a day go by without picking up an instrument and expressing himself in song.
For much of the past 40 years, Wegner has built a career around performing music written by other songwriters. This musical journey has brought him onto stages with Indigo Girls, Juliana Hatfield, Ani DiFranco, Vic Chesnutt, River Phoenix, The Lemonheads, Caroline Aiken, Danielle Howle, members of R.E.M. & Widespread Panic… just to name a few.
He also has performed roughly 2000 shows with tribute bands Abbey Road LIVE! (Beatles) and Cosmic Charlie (Grateful Dead), as well as tributes to Pink Floyd, Simon And Garfunkel, David Bowie, Rolling Stones, R.E.M., Nick Drake and Spinal Tap.
Folk, jazz, funk, pop, ambient, Americana, punk, reggae, jam-band, show tunes, children's music, improv comedy… Michael is happy to dive into almost any genre, as long as it allows him the opportunity to and be in-the-moment and connect with fellow humans through music.
Performing at iconic venues all over the USA - including Red Rocks in Colorado, Atlanta’s Fox Theatre and the Oregon Country Fair, Wegner is comfortable in front of audiences of 5 to 50,000. Each time Michael walks onto a stage, he strives to make a personal connection with the listeners.
After four decades of regularly performing written by others, Michael finally released his debut solo album Hive Mined in 2023. These ten songs are snappy and sentimental, whimsical and introspective, covering numerous subjects: love and heartbreak, mortality and loss, hope and affirmation, biscuits and gravy...
Equally varied is the instrumentation on Hive Mined, which features Michael on guitar, mandolin, clarinet, piano, banjo, harmonica and organ. With a swarm of ideas and sounds buzzing around in his "hive", Michael enlisted the help of producer extraordinaire John Keane (R.E.M., Indigo Girls, Cowboy Junkies, 10,000 Maniacs), who did an expert job mixing and mastering.
"The whole album is deeply focused and emotionally deep in a familiar, somewhat comforting way."

DAVID GANS
David Gans delivers literate, improvisational folk-rock with looping in a “solo electric" setting.
A solo Gans show is likely to consist of several elements: country-blues-style fingerpicking; loop-based improvisations created live in the moment; sweetly-sung ballads, original or borrowed; Grateful Dead songs reinterpreted to suit his voice and guitar; wry observations of the music-festival subculture and the larger world; soulful and passionate political commentary; favorites from the folk-rock canon of the last 50 years.
Mix and match - it's never the same show twice, but it's always worth a listen.
