South Coast Orchid Society is pleased to present a program by Carol Klonowski, President of the Orchid Society of California (Oakland, CA), “Memorial to a Paph Fanatic: Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Norito Hasegawa (1940-2023)”, at Whaley Park Community Center, 5620 E. Atherton St. in Long Beach at 7 PM on Monday, January 26, 2025. Norito’s day job was dentistry, but he proved to be an extraordinary orchid breeder as well, eventually specializing in the Paphiopedilum and Phragmipedium “slipper orchids” in a big way. He was a long-time member of South Coast Orchid Society and an esteemed member of the orchid judging community. Including his joint venture with Dr. Harold Koopowitz, “Paphanatics UnLimited”, Norito’s legacy brought us many new types of Paphiopedilum hybrids that have achieved worldwide popularity. Orchids grown by our members and guests, likely including the first Cymbidiums of the season, will be on display. As always, the event is free and open to the public.
