About this Event
Event Photos
April is National Poetry Awareness Month!
Join us as we commemorate the art of poetry, along with other art forms, in an intimate Open Mic setting.

This event shines a unique light on the experiences and crafts of several multi-talented artists of Caribbean Heritage, while embracing those of the African diaspora and beyond. We bring our passions, our hardships, and our triumphs to the stage where we are able to connect based on something that we ALL share...emotion.

For the past three years, we've packed the house and let our voice ring loud (artists and audience alike), as the whole room shared in one another's sentiments. The energy has been unmatched! We can't wait to feel that again.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Crystal Rose is a phenomenal writer. Born of two Jamaican parents who migrated to the U.S., Crystal gains some of her literary ability from her mother's line of writers, and her creative sense in art, culture and music from her father. Taking the best attributes of her parents she is now a powerhouse of talent.

Published by the age of 12, Crystal began her journey in poetry from the first poetry contest she joined in junior high school. As a student at George Gershwin, growing up in the inner city East New York, she did not realize what she could accomplish. Crystal began her journey as a soft-spoken poet and that journey transformed into beat and sound, as she explored the rhyme and rhythm of Hip Hop and R&B. She worked with artists such as Scienze, Grey Matter Beatbox, Ashton Martin, and Producer Ski Beatz; as well as performing on B-CAT, The Brooklyn Tabernacle, and many open mic events around the city.

Crystal’s writing further progressed as she began to put a collection together for her first poetry book released on Women’s Day, March 8, 2019. The talent that comes through Ms. Rose’s writing is intuitive and empowering. Her words point the future to a feminine voice that transcends present struggles in our lifetime.
