Caring for Caregivers: Mental Health & Planning for Every Stage
Whether you're currently caring for a loved one, supporting aging parents while raising a family, or simply planning for the future, it's never too early to start the conversation. Join mental health counselor Katrice Kendle and elder law attorney Nikki Mitchell for a thoughtful discussion on the realities of caregiving.
Together, we'll explore caregiver mental health, strategies for managing stress and burnout, and key legal and planning considerations that can help families navigate aging, long-term care, and life transitions with greater confidence. Attendees will leave with practical resources, expert insights, and tools to support both their loved ones and their own well-being.
Lunch will be provided. We look forward to seeing you!

About the Speakers
Katrice Kendle, MEd, PLPC, NCC (Under the supervision of Dr. Rachel Glik)
Katrice is a Nationally Board Certified Counselor and holds a Master’s degree in education, Community Counseling, CACREP program; and graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, as well as a Communications minor, both obtained at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Katrice recognizes the heightened need for caregiver support for adults navigating matters associated with advancing age, and the stressors that may result. Having been a direct caregiver for more than 10 years, Katrice has unique experiences with the continuum care model, which generally starts with an adult’s transition from their home through hospice as needed. At every step, both those in need of support and caregivers alike may face emotional challenges that warrant the assistance of a skilled helper. Katrice is aware the caregiver population varies. For this reason, Katrice welcomes managers, supervisors, leaders, and mental health or medical practitioners to seek support for themselves to address matters such as caregiver fatigue. Also, for those seeking caretaker support in rural areas (i.e. farming and agriculture communities), they too are a growing population of what traditionally falls under caregiving. Nikki earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and her law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law, where she concentrated in health law. She went on to represent clients at Legal Aid in disability and SSI appeals, special education, and elder law cases, and later advised schools and universities on Title IX compliance.
Her practice today centers on Medicaid planning, special needs trusts, and estate planning for families with special needs. She is known for making complex legal processes accessible and for helping families move forward with confidence. “When clients have clarity and know what steps come next, it makes them feel better right away,” she explains.
As a member of the Special Needs Alliance Board of Directors, Nikki is committed to helping the organization respond to changes in the public benefits landscape and strengthening the partnerships that support families nationwide.
Nikki lives in Kirkwood, Missouri, with her husband, three daughters, and four dogs.
