About this Event

The Black Heritage Support Service presents 'How To Live Longer'.

The Black Caribbean community is currently experiencing a mental health epidemic. With increasing rates of mental health conditions and suicide, we would like to offer the community life saving information and tools to manage and improve our relationship with the therapeutic world. This event is for both men and women.

BBC 1 Extra presenter Theo Johnson will be exploring the research project

'The study of men', which includes a collation of interviews and an exploration of the mental health journeys of Black men. He will be joined by guests live on stage.

We will also welcome some of the worlds leading researchers in Caribbean brain healthcare, African centred psychotherapy, suicide prevention and nutrition.

Live on stage we will curate an intimate discussion disecting traumatic colonial behaviours that masquerade as culture. This will be an open Q&A. How can we stop repeating patterns of traumatic behaviours in Caribbean homes?

We are also delighted to be joined by Dr Ishtar Govia, one of the Caribbeans leading researchers in Brain healthcare. Dr Govia will be sharing her dementia and brain health findings collected from across the Caribbean.

Services available on the day
