About this course

Develop and enhance your employability skills through confidence-building learning experiences. This course aims to help those looking to re-enter the job market after a career break, or those wishing to apply for new job roles and who are seeking to boost their skills.

The job market is ever-changing, and recruitment has become more sophisticated. In this course you will explore what employers are seeking, and how best to present yourself to make the most effective job applications.

You will learn how self-awareness can support you during your career planning. Further exercises can be undertaken after class. Tutor input and group discussion will be used to support you with your career planning. You will learn about how to best to develop a CV, make job applications and present yourself at interview. Increasing self-confidence will underpin all aspects of the course. For the practical exercises you will work in small groups. You will have the opportunity to peer-review your CV, facilitated by the tutor who is a qualified, and experienced Careers Adviser.

Topics will include:

  • self-awareness and careers decision-making,
  • opportunity awareness,
  • CVs and applications,
  • effective interviews (different types).

This course will suit learners with a Level 2 or above type qualification. Paid work experience is not essential, but all life experiences are useful.

By the end of the course, you will:

  • have developed greater self-awareness for careers
  • be able to investigate job opportunities more effectively
  • be able to design and target your CV and applications,
  • be able to manage your self-presentation at interviews with more confidence

Learners should bring a notebook and pen (or you are welcome to bring your own laptop or notebook, etc)

You will find a lot of info on writing CVs but the library will have books on CVs and this website is useful: reed.co.uk/careers-advice/free-cv-template
