About this Event
UAL made a public commitment to reach Net Zero across its operations by 2040. Iur Carbon Literacy training course was designed to support that goal.
Our course is externally accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project, a UN-recognised organisation, and eery participant who completes the training and pledges actions can gain Carbon Literate Citizen certification. So far, over 850 staff and 400 students across UAL have taken part, contributing to UAL’s recognition as a Carbon Literate Educator.
The course is structured around three modules. Each unpacks carbon data in a specific context: global, local, and organisational. We start with the big picture: how we understand and measure climate change, and what we know about polluting industries and mitigation technologies. Then, we take a look at everyday products and processes, discovering the carbon impact of everything from using a sewing machine,to installing a wall vinyl, screenprinting, using photo editing software, or insulating a roof.
In our final module, we put our collective understanding together to unpack how emissions are recorded in the context of UAL, recognising strategies for decarbonisation across art and design education.
The course runs from 10pm-4pm, with a one hour lunch break.
Please note that this course is open to UAL Climate Advocates only: please do not sign up if you are not involved in this programme.
