Born and raised in Rock Island, Captain William "Hawk" Albracht served in the U.S. Army Special Forces during the Vietnam War. He is the recipient of three Silver Stars for gallantry in action, three Purple Hearts, and five Bronze Stars, as well as several other awards for combat valor. After returning to civilian life, Captain Albracht worked as a Secret Service agent for more than twenty-five years, protecting six presidents and numerous foreign leaders. Following his retirement from the Secret Service, Albracht managed Executive Security Operations for the Ford Motor Company before opening a security consulting business. Today, he maintains a busy schedule as a dynamic and engaging speaker and consultant. He is the author, with military veteran Captain Marvin J. Wolf, of Abandoned in Hell: The Fight for Vietnam's Firebase Kate, which recounts Albracht's leadership in defending a remote hilltop outpost while his men were outnumbered three dozen to one.
