Our world is in crisis. A polarized and deadlocked society, ever-increasing climate disasters, and violent far-right mobilizations that pose a threat to local communities across the country and are attempting to wrest the levers of power away from political centrists who seem incapable of fixing anything. If we wish to escape the current trajectory we're on, we'll have to chart a new path. To do that, we'll need to imagine radically different models of organizing ourselves.
Violence is a feature of capitalism and its presence, always looming, creates imaginary lines and invisible walls that make it difficult for us to realize our collective power and abilities. In this multi-media presentation we'll examine the ways colonial systems of violence impede and stifle our imaginations, making it difficult to move beyond status quo politics that has always been an obstacle to meaningful change.
Freedom is a relationship, not a way of protecting us from the outside world. It's a way of intersecting that maximizes possibilities. We need new ways of addressing social problems that build solidarity and mutual aid between us. If time allows we'll have a community discussion afterwards where we can share ideas on how best to move forward in our own communities. Hope to see y'all there! Presented by Adam Senecaut.
