Capital Sessions at the NAC March 22nd with DJ ELYZE and dancers Effect and Didi (Moov Ottawa) 1:30 to 3:30PMCapital Sessions is back at the NAC on March 22nd from 1:30 to 3:30 PM with DJ Elyze and dancers Effect and Didi from Moov Ottawa! It's a free community house dance practice! The DJ plays deep soulful house for 2 hours straight and there are two 30-minute workshops (at 1:30 and 2:30) by our guest dancers. The instruction is visual (no screaming 1-2-3-4) and the class portion is optional, you can do you, or learn some steps! You can hang out, there's seating, an awesome cafe, great family-friendly house music and an awesome community vibe. It's a rare chance to learn some house dance steps from an amazing dancer and hear the freshest new global house music played by a world-class DJ on a great soundsystem! Come share-vibe and enjoy the music! Did I mention it's FREE??? If you want to mark your calendars ahead of time, the next NAC Capital Sessions are April 19, May 24 and June 28th, talent will be announced as we go forward!
ELYZE is a DJ based in the Gatineau–Ottawa region. A nurse by profession, she places human connection at the heart of her artistic approach. Through immersive and energetic sets, she creates a space for connection where music and authenticity meet.

Effect
Arnaldo "Effect" Betancourt Silva is a dancer, choreographer, and artistic director with a distinct esthetic rooting from his Afro-Cuban and Breaking background. He was born in Havana, Cuba, then grew up in
Montreal, Canada and now lives in Ottawa with his wife and daughter. Although he has trained in many styles, he specializs in Breaking, House, Hip Hop and dabbles into Popping and social Latin dances like Salsa and Bachata. Through his career, he has been able to perform on major stages, including Cirque du Soleil for the Pan Am Games, Cirque Éloize in Montreal and Dammam, and the Juno Awards in Ottawa. He is also the co-founder and artistic director of Moov Ottawa Dance, a Canadian street dance company, and Moov Bouge Danza, a nonprofit organization dedicated to dance education and community engagement. Beyond performance, Effect is committed to cultural exchange and community-driven projects. In 2023, he traveled to Korea for a research and cultural connection project, deepening his understanding of global street dance culture. More recently, he completed two tours in Ontario within the Francophone arts scene. As a new father, he balances his artistic career with family life, drawing inspiration from both. Through workshops, mentorship, and collaborations, he continues to push creative boundaries while making a lasting impact on the Street Dance world.
Didi
Alea de Castro, BScN (RN), also known as Didi, is a multidisciplinary street dance artist, performer, curator, choreographer, educator, event producer, and registered nurse with over 23 years of dance experience, including around 14 years focused on Waacking, Hip Hop, and House. She has trained extensively with pioneering artists and foundational figures across New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, and Montreal. As co-founder and artistic director of Moov Ottawa Dance, Alea co-choreographed and co-directed the 2021 work The Underground through the Ottawa Dance Directive and has toured the Greater Toronto Area with her company. Internationally, her work has been presented at Indonesia’s International Dance Festival (year) and in Korea through the Korea Connections Fund from the Canada Council for the Arts. She has also taught workshops abroad, including House dance intensives in Detroit, Michigan. Alea has produced and curated major events in Ottawa, including Soft Serve (the city’s annual Waacking Battle), Shake the Room (Hip Hop and Breaking showcase), and Hey Ma! (celebrating motherhood in street dance). These events combine performance, mentorship, and community engagement, supporting emerging artists and amplifying local dance culture. As a distinguished competitor, Alea has earned 1st place at Montreal’s Under Pressure Street Dance Festival and invitations as a guest battler at WaackBazzar. In addition to her arts career, Alea is a Registered Nurse and recipient of the 2021 Spark Ontario Health Care Hero Award. Now a proud mother, she continues to train, perform, educate, and grow both her personal practice and the communities she serves, mentoring Ottawa’s next generation of dancers while maintaining strong connections to the Canadian dance community.
