The Choir of St James’ will be joined by BachBand@St James’ to offer a liturgical performance of JS Bach’s Cantata ‘Ihr werdet weinen und heulen’ BWV 103, a Cantata for the Third Sunday after Easter. Composed for performance in Leipzig on 22nd April 1745, this Cantata opens with text from John 16.20. It is takes the form of a long, elaborate and highly expressive chorus of weeping and of joy. The following movements are set to texts by the poet Marianne von Ziegler. The Cantata is scored for strings and continuo with the unusual addition of Soprano
Recorder and Trumpet.
