'Candles in the Rain' - by Noel O'Neill
Featuring Josh McGee, Andy Wilder, & Connor Brown.
"Comradeship makes a man feel warm and courageous when all his instincts tend to make him cold and afraid." - Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery
Albert & Stan are veterans of WWII, having served the United Kingdom through campaigns in African & Europe – not always together, but keeping in touch throughout & after. From quite different backgrounds, they met as young soldiers. Now they take care of one another in the persistent spirit of camaraderie.
‘Candles in the Rain’ examines the scars of war these men carry which cannot be seen.
After the World Wars, many soldiers who did not die still lost their lives – or because of the impact of the conflict, & the years it took from them, they were not afforded opportunity to build lives post military “careers.” Jobs were scarce, mental health care was even scarcer, & not something to be asked for openly. These two men whose story we get to share a little of are keeping each other afloat, unsure about living.
Modern military conflicts may never build this kind of kinship between soldiers. Even through the toughest of times, it is a beautiful thing to see.
Music & memories, darned socks & dogs. Carrying on, leaving no man behind.
Enter Leonard. A young chap aggressively aspiring to the 'white picket fence' kind of life Albert or Stan could've had, if they'd been born 20 years later. The three men change the course of each others' lives. Whether for the better or not, well, that depends on who you'd ask..
