The Story of Us...About 20 years ago we started a team in Ivanhoe and wanted to have a run at the big Koori KO... Well we did that 2 years in a row and went to Sydney on both occasions and played at the famous Henson Park.
Late last year a group of mates and mob, some of who played in the original sides went camping together. Joel Thompson was one of those mates and with also one of the original Ivanhoe Emus when he was a young fulla before he embarked on his NRL Career with the Canberra Raiders, Manly and St George.
Joel has done everything in football and most recently winning the big KO with Walgett. Joel mentioned that he would like to play for Ivanhoe in a knockout and we should get the Emus back together. Put something on for Ivanhoe that we can be proud of and not getting together for a sad time, and we all know we've had them in the last few years and slowly losing our characters and mob from our little red dirt town.
With this in mind we've come together to put a side on the field at the Queanbeyan Kanberri Connections Koori Knockout to be held in Canberra on the 27th September 2025. We've pulled together our sponsors and are rounding up our playing squad. We invite all our mob from Ivanhoe, who may be spread far and wide to come to Canberra that weekend to join us in getting together. We know there will be some other Ivanhoe Lads playing for another side that weekend and we will be there to support them too, and it's a pity they cant play for both sides.
Our side will be made up of a core of Ivanhoe Lads with Joel Thompson being the Captain, Kodi Charles the Coach, and Josh Charles being the leaders of our side. These lads will be brining family and friends together to put our side on the field.
Our managers will be Smiley Johnson, Boof Clark and Norm Little who are very passionate about the Ivanhoe Emus and our players and supporters will be well looked after.
Our colours will be Red, White and Blue and is a shout out to our Ivanhoe Roosters heritage, which is why we originally chose the Emu to be our logo (The native rooster haha)..
Anyway watch this space and shortly we'll announce our sponsors and put up our playing colours. We'll have limited polo shirts available for sale to our supporters so get in quick once we put the designs up.
