The VORTEX presents Camera Obscura, three evenings of screenings of films by Central Texas filmmakers and media creators. Camera Obscura is not just a showcase; it's a platform for local artists to share their powerful narratives. From thought-provoking shorts to captivating features and compelling web series, each work of art has the potential to ignite conversations and to inspire change within our community.
Our theme for June 24th is Flourishing.

This event is free and open to the public. Seating is first come, first served. Please enjoy food from Patrizi’s Italian Food Truck and drinks from The Butterfly Bar.
Following the screenings, join us for an engaging talkback session with the creators themselves. Dive deeper into the themes explored in their films, gain insight into their creative process, and be part of the dialogue that continues long after the credits roll.
We welcome submissions for our August showcase from seasoned filmmakers whose films have completed the festival circuit as well as from emerging talents eager to make their mark on the cinematic landscape. Our focus is on stories that resonate, messages that matter, and perspectives that broaden our understanding of the world.
In our commitment to diversity and inclusivity, we actively encourage submissions from global majority/BIPOC artists as well as from non-binary and transgender creators. Your unique voices enrich our collective narrative, and we are dedicated to providing a platform for your stories to shine.
