About this Event
This course involves making a short sleeved dress using the Merchant and Mills Camber pattern. Further details and photos can be found at http://merchantandmills.com/store/patterns/the-camber-set/
Construction is fairly simple – there are no buttonholes or zips, but some steps are a bit fiddly. The class is suitable for a novice sewer, or for someone more experienced who would like to do some dressmaking in a sociable environment.
As we are working from a commercial pattern, the dress is available to make in a choice of two size ranges:
UK adult size 8 – 18
UK adult size 20 – 28
This is quite a loose fitting dress, so if you have any queries about fit, please contact us and we can discuss the measurements of the completed garment.
On the first day of the class, you will choose your fabric, trace your pattern, cut out, and make a start on assembly. Your dress will be finished off on the second day.
All materials will be provided. A good range of 100% cottons will be provided for you to choose from. Alternatively, you could choose to make it in a needlecord, for a lovely Winter weight dress.
Three metres of fabric is included in the cost of the class. If you choose a fabric with a strong design which needs to be pattern matched, you may need to buy additional fabric to allow for this, particularly in larger sizes.
The cost of the class is NOT based on using one of our designer fabrics. If you would like to do so, please contact us on 0114 2455996 to discuss the additional cost for this.
Tea, coffee, soft drinks and homemade cake are included.
This is an all-day course, so you will need to either bring a packed lunch, or buy something from a local shop on the day.
Length of course:
Twelve hours.
Skill level: Beginner / intermediate
As for all of our sewing workshops, you must be able to use a sewing machine with a reasonable level of skill. On that basis, you should have either completed an “introduction to sewing machines” session, or have used a sewing machine yourself to undertake simple tasks like joining two pieces of fabric. If you have not done this, this course will not be suitable.
Terms and conditions:
Our workshops are open to individuals aged fourteen and upwards. However, a responsible adult must remain on site at all time with minors.
Full payment is required at the time of booking to secure your place.
Any further details, along with anything you need to bring with you, will be sent out via email in advance of the scheduled date.
All workshops will begin promptly at the scheduled time, so please ensure that you arrive early enough to get yourself settled in and have a coffee and cake before the class is due to start.
Cancellations:
For cancellations with more than two weeks’ notice, a refund will be given, less a 25% administration fee. Cancellations with less two weeks’ notice are non-refundable, unless we are able to fill your place.
All workshops will clearly be marked as being suitable for beginners, intermediate or advanced. When booking a workshop, you are responsible for assessing your own abilities. Happy Hare cannot be held responsible if you book the wrong level of workshop or do not read the description of the workshop correctly. A refund will not be given for booking a workshop which you later feel is not at the right level for you, unless the cancellation is made more than two weeks’ prior to the scheduled date.
Should we need to cancel a class due to circumstances beyond our control or limited numbers, a full refund will be given. Alternatively, you will be given the option to book onto another workshop.
Please note: when making a booking it is assumed that our terms and conditions have been read and approved.
