CAM After Dark offers a unique opportunity to explore the art on display at Cameron Art Museum. This special gallery conversation with Brendan Conner will provide insights into Thomas Sayre’s spiritual journey and artistic symbolism. Through Brendan’s reflections and selected recordings, guests will explore the artist’s spiritual journey and the connections between the many familiar symbols in the work.
Brendan Conner is the Director of Music and Organist at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Wilmington, NC. He brings a wealth of experience to this conversation. His past roles include Associate Director of Music at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Atlanta and Organ Scholar at Christ Church Cathedral in Indianapolis. Brendan holds a music degree from UC Berkeley and has completed graduate work in organ performance at Indiana University, where he is pursuing a doctorate. Also, he currently teaches at the Sacred Music Institute of America.
The exhibition Thomas Sayre: Four Walls showcases new and never-exhibited works. Each piece uses materials like tar, smoke, fabric, and earth to examine ideals of church, nation, and creation. Sayre’s art reflects his spiritual journey while inviting viewers to contemplate their own. Attendees at CAM After Dark on 1/23 can explore the connections between these themes and their broader meanings.
Free with museum admission.
