Join us for an insightful conversation with acclaimed NC artist Bevely McIver. Know for her bold autobiographical paintings, McIver invites viewers into her personal story, tackling themes of family and African-American identity. Fresh, innovative and spontaneous, in her approach, McIver creates series of works in a manner that she has described as “painfully honest”. McIver will delve into the vibrant and emotive portraits that have become signature subjects in her work.Beverly McIver is widely acknowledged as a significant presence in contemporary American art and has charted a new direction as an artist. She has accumulated more awards and honors than many artists receive in a lifetime, which she pays forward by teaching younger generations about the power of art and the hard work it takes to make it a career. McIver is Professor of the Practice of Art, Art HIstory, & Visual Studies at Duke University, and prior to this appointment, she taught at Arizona State University for 12 years.
