About the Artist:
Benjamin Aysan – Calligraphy Artist
Born and raised in Turkey, Benjamin Aysan is a passionate calligraphy artist with over a decade of experience in both traditional and modern styles. Combining his background in education and community outreach, he uses calligraphy to bridge cultures, inspire creativity, and promote dialogue. His work has been showcased at festivals, interfaith gatherings, and cultural events, where he shares the beauty of the written word as an art form and a means of storytelling. For Benjamin, calligraphy is more than writing—it is an expression of emotion, history, and human connection. Through his workshops, he invites participants to explore the elegance of letters and the meditative rhythm of strokes. Actively involved in community projects and exhibitions, Benjamin continues to connect people through art and dialogue.

Agenda
Welcome & Introduction
Info: Warm welcome and short self-introduction
A brief history of calligraphy and its importance in Turkish culture
Overview of the Italic script—where it came from and why it’s elegant and practical
Display a few sample works to inspire participants
Basic Strokes & Pen Handling
Info: Introduction to calligraphy tools (pen, nib, ink, paper, angle)
Demonstrate pen angles (usually 45° for italic)
Practice basic strokes: thin and thick lines, diagonal strokes, entry and exit lines
Lowercase Italic Letters
Info: Demonstrate step-by-step how to form basic lowercase letters
Focus on “a, e, i, o, u” (round forms)
Then move to “n, m, r, s” (stem and curve forms)
Individual practice time with one-on-one feedback
Uppercase Italic Letters
Info: Demonstrate main uppercase letters: A, B, C, D, E, L, M
Explain rhythm, proportion, and balance in capital forms
Participants practice writing short words combining upper and lowercase letters
Composition Practice
Info: Write short phrases or quotes (e.g., “Art speaks where words are unable to explain”)
Teach spacing, alignment, and layout on the page
Optional: add small flourishes or borders
Reflection & Display
Info: Participants showcase their final work
Group photo (if applicable)
Short closing remarks: encourage continued practice
Optional: share workshop feedback forms
