The October Beatnik Lounge art exhibition WHEN WIND BECOMES WORDS will celebrate the 2021 Big Read featured book An American Sunrise by the first Native American Poet laureate of the United States, Joy Harjo. Harjo expresses flames of exile, grief, and hope in poetry of place, ancestors, origin stories, social justice, and more. Honor the First Nations and share your artwork inspired by a poem/stanza/phrase from the book. The selected text which inspired your piece will be presented alongside your artwork.
Artists interested in submitting artwork for the show can contact Deborah Tobin at (619) 806-6202 for a free copy of An American Sunrise.
Free entry. Please consider making a donation instead to the Native American Land Conservancy (www.nativeamericanland.org) or to the California Indian Nations College (www.cincollege.org).
A 10% commission fee for all artwork sold will go to the Beatnik Lounge.
Work can be delivered to the Beatnik on Tuesday, October 5th from 4pm to 7pm and on Thursday, October 7th from 4pm to 7pm.
