About this Event
Join @jasonjourneyman up against the Hollywood Hills for a sunset nature walk that will afford us beautiful views of our beloved Los Angeles, the Hollywood sign, and the iconic observatory!
Spring is in the air, and with it comes a much needed renewal of life in the Southern California ecosystem. Recent showers nourished plants that were parched through one of the driest winters on record. While plants in other areas have suffered a much bigger shock through wildfire. Despite those struggles, the plants and the habitat they provide is astonishingly making a comeback across our region. The trails around Altadena are still closed, but researchers have already been able to see the regrowth and renewal firsthand.
On this sunset hike we'll trek through Griffith Park to examine how the plants are coming back from the ongoing challenges we've experienced. Along this trail, a small area was burned in a brush fire right around the same time as the deadly Eaton and Palisades fires, giving us a glimpse into the way our native plants react to such intense conditions.
What to bring: Sturdy closed-toe shoes, water, and binoculars.
A reminder email with meet up instructions will be sent to all registered students 24 hours before the event.
