About this Event
Join Esme Cabrera, a California born and raised crafter, who will share her latest original origami models inspired by California native plants.
Origami is the art and challenge of folding paper into representational or abstract forms. The word origami is Japanese in origin with ‘ori’ meaning folding, and ‘kami’ meaning paper.
Esme considers origami a universally accessible thinking practice that is shared to foster learning, focus, puzzling and deep observation. As someone who has followed and practiced the craft for over 30 years, Esme will give a brief overview of the history, current trends and fascinating techniques developed by origami artists from all over the world and how she applies many of these ever-evolving techniques shared by the global origami community to design her own models inspired by California native plants. Lastly, class participants will fold an Origami California Poppy to take home and share with others! A special opportunity not to be missed!
This class is suitable for ages 10 and up.
Esme Cabrera is a Northern California based crafter, environmental advocate, educator, and California Naturalist. Her deep love of California Native Plants is inspired by simple walks and hikes among the diverse landscapes of the Bay Area and beyond. She is happiest among the folks who stop every 10 feet on a trail to admire and marvel at the native botanical beauty among us.
