California Mitigation Summit 2024

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services Hazard Mitigation Division and the California Fire Foundation are pleased to invite working professionals to a free two-day summit created especially for those working to reduce or permanently eliminate future risk to lives and property from Natural Hazards.

This Summit will provide updates about the State Hazard Mitigation Plan, a forum to strengthen partnerships among state and local stakeholders building long-term community resiliency, gain insights from state and local hazard mitigation experts, obtain new information about mitigation funding opportunities, and develop a better understanding of mitigation strategies to break the cycle of damage, reconstruction, and repeated damage.

Summit will take place Wednesday 2/21 and Thursday 2/22 at the SAFE Convention Center in Sacramento. Attendees must register to attend.

BONUS EVENT: Local Mitigation Planning Workshop on Tuesday, February 20, 2024

Do you have a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP)? Is your current LHMP expiring? You are invited to attend a pre-Summit workshop on Local Mitigation Planning where Cal OES planners will provide essential information on key elements including new FEMA planning requirements for the inclusion of vulnerable populations, best practices for public engagement, how to prepare your risk assessment and include climate considerations, how to integrate your LHMP into other planning mechanisms including the General Plan Safety Element and possible ways to fund the preparation of your plan. Participants will be provided with the latest LHMP review guidance and policy books, as well as other resources that can assist in the successful development of an LHMP.
