California Meets Oregon Landscape Design
with ORCA’s founder Molly Sedlacek and Blueprint Earth’s founder Brit Sastrawidjaya. Moderated by Virginia Barden, hosted at Design Commons.
We’ll discuss the importance of material selection, their ecological impacts, creating a plant palette, and other regional design considerations.
We'll be serving light bites and refreshments.
More about Molly Sedlacek:
Growing up on the Oregon coast, Molly spent her childhood playing in a Bay Laurel hedge her parents planted and a bamboo forest her dad grew. These innate acts of living in the outdoors started her journey as an outdoor designer. It was a blueprint to living that her family handed down.
Molly discovered her talent in outdoor design when she was planting, curating, and exploring use of outdoor space in her own garden in San Francisco. What she wanted, she couldn’t point to in a picture, it only existed in her imagination. It took material sourcing and experimenting to understand what flora, stone, and timber felt right. Quickly after completing this garden, Molly’s community of friends and family began supporting this conceptual approach to landscape design, and ORCA was born.
More about Brit Sastrawidjaya:
Brit Sastrawidjaya founded Blueprint Earth to do one thing: transform an industry that looks green but is actually quite toxic. With nearly two decades of expertise in stormwater management, site grading, and regenerative landscape design, she has mastered what most designers never learn — how land actually works. As a licensed contractor and founder, she leads a team creating landscapes where every living creature thrives: clean water, healthy soils, regenerated aquifers, and a vibrant pollinator community.
