California Goldback Prerelease At MAVERiC Studio!

In preparation for the highly anticipated California Goldback series, MAVERiC Studio has collaborated with The Basement for a day of innovation in the Arts, Immersive Storytelling and Entrepreneurship.

Saturday, June 20, in partnership with the San Diego Table Top Alliance, Tavern Tales Events and the Ladies of Dungeons & Dragons San Diego, the MAVERiC Studio will host Goldbacks community leaders and artists in a live Goldback Market and Immersive Game Event at the UC San Diego Design & Innovation Building.

What does it take to make money beautiful? Talk with the artist who makes the images that move us featuring veteran bill designers, the MAVERiC Studio Mint, and welcoming the Queen Creek High School from Arizona.


Guests:

Jeremy Cordon, founder and CEO of Goldbacks. Jeremy has a passion for sound money and aims to make gold accessible in everyday transactions. With this vision in mind, Jeremy pioneered Goldbacks—a physical gold currency designed to preserve wealth and strengthen local economies. Philip Eborn, Director of Community Development, known for turning local engagement into real economic momentum. He helps communities activate trust, build resilient networks, and unlock the power of voluntary, values‑driven exchange. Philip brings clarity, energy, and a people‑first vision to every stage he steps onto.

Dr. Edward Watts is the Alkiviadis Vassiliad Endowed Chair and a distinguished professor of History at the University of California, San Diego. His research interests center on the intellectual, political, and religious history of the Roman world. He is the author of seven books and the editor of five more, including his latest The Romans: A 2000 Year History .

Trisha Williams, MAVERiC Studio Director, a leader in creating immersive spaces, Trisha has collaborated with The USC Cinema World Building Media Lab, Marion Ewing Kauffman Foundation, Sundance New Frontiers, and is currently working in affiliation with the Arthur C. Clarke Center for Human Imagination and UCSD Innovation.

California Gold Rush: An Immersive Experience

For the first time anywhere, we proudly present The Golden World, an original immersive setting for tabletop gaming inspired by the art and virtues of Goldback. Featuring heavy influences from the Wonderful World of Oz, The Golden World exists next to our own. There, Goldbacks aren’t just money, they’re magic, and the yellowbrick road is in danger of destruction. Will you stand with the Golden Virtues or succumb to the Barons of Dust?


Join us for an unforgettable journey west, as we celebrate the launch of this new and exciting way to share Goldbacks around the table. Written by studio player and game master, Todd Owen. Presented in collaboration with the San Diego Tabletop Alliance, Tavern Tales, and LDDSD. Step into an explorable, narrative-driven environment that brings the California Goldback to life.
