Café Philo: Black Mirror

The 3rd season of our café Philos is starting this September 2022.

This, yet another, year of crazy and interesting discussions on complex and complicated concepts, is starting with Black Mirror.

Black Mirror is an Emmy-winning Netflix series that holds up a dark, digital mirror of speculative technologies to modern society.

This TV show explores a high-tech world where it is all too easy to fall victim to ever-evolving forms of social control.

Exploring season one's first episode entitled The National Anthem, we will be invited to peer into the void and explore the philosophical, ethical, and existential dimensions of Charlie Brooker's sinister stories.

*The National Anthem *is known as one of the most disturbing Black Mirror episodes. It chronicles the humiliation of the British Prime Minister, who is forced to have sexual intercourse with a pig in order to save the kidnapped Princess Susannah.

This event is part of season Three of our philosophy cafés and it’s part of a Paris-based Cercle de Réflexion dedicated to sharing existential, philosophical, and leadership ideas that shaped (and are still shaping) our world!

This club-like English-speaking group that meets every first Thursday of the month is for anyone interested in educational discussions and resources about philosophy, where you don’t need to be a graduate-level philosopher to understand it.

Format:

This discussion-type event will be made of a short film screening of the Black Mirror’s National Anthem followed by an open group discussion, inviting everyone's take on the philosophical, ethical, and existential dilemmas explored by the writer.
