Au cours du café mortel sonore, les participant·e·s seront appelé·e·s à considérer les choses plus difficiles de la vie, puis à trouver des sons qui permettent de symboliser ces émotions. Grâce à des coussins vibrotactiles – une technologie permettant de transformer les sons en vibrations –, nous prendrons le temps d’écouter collectivement les histoires de chacun·e. Ainsi, nous tenterons de permettre à notre vécu d’exister par-delà la parole : nous le ressentirons plutôt, à travers nos sens et nos corps.

As part of the residency 𝑆𝑜𝑛𝑖𝑐 𝐸𝑥𝑝𝑙𝑜𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝐶𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝐺𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑓 at OBORO with her collaborator, Pipo Pierre-Louis, artist Salima Punjani invites you to an exploration of grief through sound and vibrations. For this gathering, you will be invited to a ritual of collective care in which you consider things that are feeling difficult in your life and find sounds and vibrations that symbolize these feelings. We will then collectively listen to each other’s stories and symbols through vibrotactile pillows - technology that amplifies sound into vibrations. The idea is to expand our stories and experiences beyond talking, and into feeling, using our bodies and senses to listen to each other.
Born in Vancouver in 1986, Salima Punjani is a multisensory artist that uses mediums like soft sculpture, vibrotactile, spatial sound, digital video and photography and relational aesthetics to build spaces for connection. Her artistic approach is intertwined with her interest in trauma-informed care and disability justice. She holds a B.A. in Communications and Political Science from Carleton University, a Graduate Diploma in Journalism from Concordia University and a Master’s in Social Work from McGill University with research focusing on the intersection of the arts and care work.
