About this Event
Cafe Europe: Talk by Stan Abbott
Join us for an in-person event where author Stan Abbott will talk about colonial history, Trump and the Faroese journey towards independence.
Faroese Days is a tribute to the remarkable people who inhabit 18 islands in the middle of the wild Atlantic Ocean. It paints an optimistic and at times idiosyncratic picture of a micro-nation that has embraced remarkable change over a quarter of a century as it contemplates the prospect of potential full statehood amid an uncertain world.
Stan is a journalist by training and worked for ten years as an award-winning writer and sub-editor on regional and national newspapers in the UK. He has also worked in the airline industry for 20 years, as an international tourism and aviation consultant and as a visitor to the Faroe Islands for over 25 years. This, his latest book, Faroese Days, was published in October 2025. Other books include Walking The Line: Exploring Settle & Carlisle Country and Ring of Stone Circles: Exploring Neolithic Cumbria.
After the talk, Stan will take questions. We will then have a discussion about the future and independence for Greenland and the threat from Trump, including the perspective of the Faroese. This is a FREE event but donations are welcome on the door (cash only) to cover costs.
