Rodney knew what was at stake. Without Delaware’s deciding vote, independence might fail. Without independence, the dream of liberty could be lost forever. So, through the night, he pressed on—his body frail but his spirit unshakable. By the time he reached Philadelphia, he was exhausted, drenched, and near collapse. But he walked into the chamber and cast the vote that secured America’s birth.
One man’s sacrifice, made in the darkest of nights, gave light to a new nation. Caesar Rodney’s courage reminds us that the future is always written by those willing to rise when called, to endure hardship, and to stand for something greater than themselves.
This Constitution Day, join us as we honor that legacy with a theatrical presentation of Caesar Rodney’s Midnight Ride—a stirring, show-style retelling that brings his dramatic journey to life before your eyes. Then, shift from history to the pressing challenges of today, as the Caesar Rodney Institute’s Directors share their work on the issues that will shape the next generation: energy, education, the economy, and healthcare.
