About this Event

SPORTS BANGER and King Alpha Sound System will be tearing it up in Shoreditch on Saturday 3rd October, celebrating 90 years since the battle of Cable Street with Unite the Union. All ticket funds donated to workers on strike.

All over the country in 1936, Mosley's British Union of Fascists were chased off the streets by a strong, organised working class who knew that the politics of hate and division offers no solutions. At Cable Street in Whitechapel, the fascists were forced to abandon their march through the diverse and largely Jewish area - faced with thousands of local people of every background who had gathered to reject fascism and hate.

This gig marks part of a wider timetable of events to celebrate anti-fascist resistance at Cable Street - get more information via our Facebook event.

  • SPORTS BANGER is a genre-defying, boundary-breaking fashion label run by Jonny Banger. Their work interrogates British pop culture, fashion, class and politics through the subversion and (mis)appropriation of branding. Launched in 2013 as a bootleg T-shirt operation, Sports Banger is rooted in rave, resistance, and eccentric British iconography. Over the past decade it has become a cultural touchpoint and cornerstone of the UK underground. Sports Banger has been throwing Mega Raves since 2018 and hosts the Shangri-la ‘Opening Ceremony’ at Glastonbury. In 2019, Sports Banger began staging a series of riotous fashion shows, which Vogue described as “arguably the most exciting of London Fashion Week.” The following year they launched HERAS –an independent record label with a monthly show on Rinse FM. Sports Banger continues to partner with local initiatives addressing food poverty, workers’ rights and refugee support. They hold an ongoing curatorial role in The Peoples Pyramid, a solid brick memorial currently under construction in Liverpool. A true grassroots phenomenon, Banger punches up—challenging authority and turning anti-establishment energy into art. Expect a stacked lineup of DJs.
  • King Alpha Sound System is a serious UK sound system headed up by Ras Peter and Ras Joseph.
