"What good is sitting all alone in your room? Come to the CABARET!"
Announcing a three week run of the award winning Kander & Ebb musical "Cabaret" at Amelia Musical Playhouse, September 5-22, 2024 -- and we want you to be a part of it!
Currently on Broadway, Cabaret's powerful story unfortunately remains socially, culturally & politically relevant nearly 80 years after gay author Christopher Isherwood's semi-autobiographical stories were published, recounting his time in Berlin and at the diverse friendly Kit Kat Klub, as the Nazi's were coming into power.
The director's vision is to have Fernandina Beach Pride members in the Pre-Show, finding it important to have local LGBTQ+ persons represented and portraying the freedom LGBTQ+ people had to safe celebrations of diversity that was so popular in Berlin nightclubs of the Weimar Era.
The Pre-Show will be an immersive experience for our local audience as they enter the theatre. Once inside, they find the theatre transformed into the Kit Kat Klub on New Year's Eve 1929 and the party is in full swing! Pride members dressed in 1920's period costumes portray the diverse party crowd at cocktail tables, dancing, mingling amongst the real local audience and enjoying various Pre-Show surprises, including a 7 minute comedic Drag Queen performance! The Pre-Show takes place while our audience is being seated and ends as the curtains rises to start the show. The Pre-Show invites our audience to be part of what it was like to have hope and happiness, and a bit of decadent fun, in a time and place that embraced cis and LGBTQ+ persons all together under one roof!

Pride Pre-Show Orientation is Monday, June 24, 2024, 6:30pm at Amelia Musical Playhouse, (commonly referred to as AMP)! Come find out what exactly is involved with time commitment, costumes, and the schedule for a few rehearsals in July & August before the September 5th Opening Night!
Pride members in the Pre-Show are invited to stay and invite friends to see the entire performance during the Previews & Dress Rehearsals.
