CA Truth & Healing Council January 2025 Regional Hearings - Southern CA

Join the California Truth & Healing Council for three in-person Regional Hearings in San Diego, Riverside and Imperial Counties. Please note that pre-registration is not required to attend, but we may be sending out parking and other logistical information to Eventbrite registered attendees. We are incredibly thankful to be hosted by theRincon Band of Luiseño Indians, Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, Ah Mutt Pipa Foundation and Xumarr Ahkoots for these events.

These meetings will be fully in-person with no hybrid option (recording will be posted afterwards).

All meetings of the Council are recorded and posted on our YouTube page. We have also partnered with a documentarian who is creating a film to coincide with the issuance of the Council's Final Report. The documentarian does not film regional hearings, but please watch this trailer/sizzle reel to get an idea of the types of discussions we have at these meetings.

For background, the Council was created by Governor Newsom via Executive Order N-15-19 which is commonly referred to as the “Governor’s Apology.” The purpose of the Council is to examine the historical record and clarify the nature, causes and extent of State sanctioned depredations and prejudicial policies committed during the early decades of California’s statehood, and make recommendations to meaningfully address the historical trauma and ongoing issues caused by these early actions. Regional Hearings are typically a half day meeting and are an opportunity for tribes to provide testimony on record to the Council or can be an opportunity for California Native Americans to provide testimony on specific issues that may be unique to the region. All convenings of the Council are open to the general public; however, we will prioritize participation of local California Native Americans during the meeting.

All attendees, regardless of vaccination status, are asked to not attend in-person if you or anyone in your household:

• Are sick or showing symptoms of COVID-19. Symptoms include coughing, sore throat, shortness of breath, fever or chills, muscle or body aches, vomiting or diarrhea, and a new loss of sense of smell or taste.
• Have come into contact with someone who is COVID-19 positive.
• Have been tested and are awaiting results.
• Have received a positive COVID-19 test.
