About this Event
The C40 Cities Students Reinventing Cities Competition is a global design challenge that empowers university students and young people (18–28) to reimagine real urban sites through bold, climate-forward solutions. Hosted locally by the City of Chicago and the Chicago Housing Authority, this year’s challenge focuses on transforming Trumbull Park Homes in the South Deering neighborhood into a more flood-resilient, climate-adaptive, and community-centered place.
The site visit provides students with an opportunity to experience Trumbull Park Homes firsthand, deepen their understanding of existing environmental and social conditions, and ground their proposals in community context.
During the visit, participants will:
- Observe flooding patterns, heat exposure, open space conditions, and infrastructure challenges
- Understand the neighborhood’s historic significance and public housing context
- Learn about community priorities, including safety, gathering spaces, healthy living, and climate resilience
- Ask questions directly to City and CHA representatives
The visit ensures proposals are not only innovative, but community-informed, feasible, and responsive to local needs. It is a critical step in developing designs that meaningfully improve environmental conditions and quality of life for Trumbull Park residents.
