By-The-Banks Summer Speaker Series

Greenville’s happiest hour just got a lot more interesting. Imagine great drinks, delicious food, good company, and fascinating stories about the natural world happening right in your own backyard. That’s exactly what’s in store as Friends of the Reedy River (FoRR) launches the first of four summer installments of its wildly engaging By-the-Banks Speaker Series

This is not your average lecture. It’s science made social, education made entertaining, and a chance to connect with the river that runs through the heart of our community. Whether you’re a nature lover, curious learner, bird enthusiast, plant nerd, or simply someone looking for a fun night out, this is one event you won’t want to miss.

The opening program, The Birds, The Bees & Native Trees: Nature in Harmony, features two dynamic experts: Rick Huffman of the South Carolina Native Plant Society and Dr. John Quinn of Furman University. Together, they’ll reveal the surprising and powerful connections between native plants, birds, pollinators, and healthy river systems.

You’ll discover how the right trees and plants create thriving habitats, why pollinators are essential to our ecosystem, and how urban landscapes can become vibrant spaces for wildlife and people alike. Most importantly, you’ll leave seeing the Reedy River watershed in a whole new way.

“This series is about making environmental education fun, welcoming, and something everyone can enjoy,” said Friends of the Reedy River. “We want people to laugh, learn, ask questions, and leave inspired to care for the places that make Greenville special.”

Guests are encouraged to arrive at 6:00 PM to mingle, grab a beverage, and order dinner before the program begins at 6:30 PM.
