Who is BVSA?
“The Buena Vista Sports Academy is a small missions organization made up of missionary families, a board of directors, pastoral advisory team, and support staff at each location. They currently have 4 ministry locations throughout Guatemala, Honduras, and West Africa, with administrative offices in the USA.
And Why are we passionate about supporting the BVSA Rhino Soccer Academy and Missionary in Training, Kaitlyn Groover?
I first learned about this amazing Academy last year during our mission trips. I had signed up for the Guatemala trip but was unable to go. These boys and young men have endured much pain in their lives, and I can certainly relate to that as a survivor of abuse. God tells us in Proverbs 31:8-9, to “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” It has been my battle cry. As a child and youth, I knew firsthand what it was like to cry out in vain and to feel hopelessness. That is why this beautiful organization means so much to me. It means a lot to Kaitlyn Groover too. And that’s why this amazing young woman (a teacher who has served in children’s ministry, who speaks fluent Spanish and serves on our amazing Latino Ministry staff), upon believing that God has called her to this mission and ministry, knowing God orchestrated all the events leading up to this moment, has decided to relocate to Honduras. In Kaitlyn’s own words, “I will join a team of other missionaries in instilling in the hearts of the Rhinos that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.” Kaitlyn had not planned on going on the mission trip last year to Honduras. However, at the last minute, Kaitlyn took the place of another missionary who was unable to go. It was there that she fell in love with this organization, the young men, and missionaries. She knew she was called to go on that trip and return one day. And when there was an opening earlier this year, she didn’t hesitate to say, “Here I am, Lord, send me.”
