Buying Your First Fleece

Join us for Buying Your First Fleece workshop!

Have you ever wandered around a fleece sale at a fiber festival and wanted to buy one but didn’t know what to look for? Or maybe you've bought some fleece, but it didn't quite work for what you had in mind? It can be overwhelming, for sure! This workshop at Alchemy Fiber Mill will empower you to choose your fleece with confidence! We will cover commonly available sheep breeds and what types of projects different kinds of fleeces are ideal for. We will look at how to evaluate the quality of a fleece, look for potential flaws that may make a fleece not quite right for your use, and discuss different ways to prepare fleeces whether for home-processing or sending to a mill for processing.

Instructor Bio

Deanna (Dee) Moore has been buying way too many fleeces for at least 25 years. They volunteer at major fiber festivals in the fleece sale barn every year and love to explore the entire range of breeds and fleece types available to hand spinners. They have a spinning and weaving studio in Easthampton, MA and teach various fiber arts in the Pioneer Valley.
