About this Event
Please Join the Central California Environmental Justice Network, Tre Borden /Co Lynde as we unveil BUYING POWER: LA CUASA SIGUE a new art installation by Dorian Lynde. LA CAUSA SIGUE (or the Cause Continues) honors the farm worker rights campaign spearheaded in the 20th century by Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta.
Using the familiar presentation of a farm stand, humor and hyper-realistic fabrication methods, the installation is composed of satirical products that educate visitors about the dangerous, often lethal, working conditions faced by California’s farm workers. The products are based on interviews with farm workers about their experiences facilitated by the Central California Environment Justice Network at their headquarters in Fresno.
Over 60 farm workers will be coming to Sacramento that morning to have a Day of Action speaking to legislators and labor safety leaders in the Capitol. Please come see the installation, meet the people who are responsible for the food we eat and get involved in our movement for worker justice!
The project was produced by Tre Borden /Co, and made possible with support from The James Irvine Foundation Leadership Awards. Nayamin Martinez, Executive Director of CCEJN, is a 2025 Leadership Award recipient and has led CCEJN since 2016. CCEJN combines grassroots organizing with innovative programs to address environmental injustice in California's Central Valley. Under her leadership, CCEJN has contributed to significant policy victories including California's first statewide pesticide notification system and bans on oil drilling near populated areas, while equipping immigrant communities with tools to advocate for systemic change.
BUYING POWER is an art installation series by Dorian Lynde. It uses familiar sites of commerce and humor to investigate social issues through interactive displays and satirical, research-based products. The first iteration debuted in 2018 at the California Democratic Party Convention in partnership with Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California.
