About this Event
Hutchinson’s Bank is a large area of secluded chalk grassland and woodland, supporting many rare plants and insects, and this Insect Week we’re heading out to see what we can find.
Join London Wildlife Trust staff member and Hutchinson’s Bank enthusiast Zak as you explore this important habitat, finding out about the species that call it home, and honing your butterfly & insect identification skills.
The site is also home to the glow-worm, a bioluminescent beetle that’s threatened by light pollution and other factors. London Wildlife Trust is undertaking conservation work to help this special species flourish.

🥾 Guided walk around the site.
🦋 Get tips on how to improve your insect ID skills.

Important information
Hutchinson's Bank has no toilets or other indoor facility.
The walk will be entirely outdoors, so dress for the weather! Please wear suitable footwear and do wear sunscreen and a hat if it's hot.
We recommend bringing water, as well as binoculars if you have them.
Footpaths are sometimes steep and stepped. There are occasional benches. If you would like further information please contact us at [email protected].
This event is aimed at adults aged 18+, but can be inclusive for young people aged 11 and above, who must be accompanied by an adult.
The insects on our reserve are wild, so we can’t guarantee sightings of particular species. However, this unpredictability is all part of the joy of nature!
All proceeds from this event enable London Wildlife Trust's mission of nature recovery for a thriving city.
