What do butterflies need to survive in our cities?
Join us for a free interactive workshop with Dr. Oliver Schmitz, biologist, butterfly expert, Chairman of the Entomological Society ORION Berlin, and co-author of the German Red List of Butterflies.
During this two-hour workshop, you'll discover the fascinating world of butterflies and learn how gardens, balconies, and other urban green spaces can become valuable habitats for them. Through photographs, stories, and real examples from Germany, we'll explore butterfly ecology, migration, host plants, nectar plants, and the main threats butterflies face today.
The workshop will take place in the Butterflies' Garden at Dammweg 216, where we'll connect science with practice by exploring the garden, observing butterflies and their host plants, and discussing what makes an urban habitat truly butterfly-friendly. Participants will also take part in a simple interactive activity to identify butterfly host plants growing in the garden.
There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and discuss practical ideas for creating butterfly-friendly habitats at home. No previous knowledge is required—everyone is welcome!
