The 2022 Butte County Stand Down is this week.
The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 582, is sponsoring the 2022 Veterans Stand Down. This is a collaborative effort by many nonprofit, government, and service provider agencies, and volunteers. If you are a United States Military Veteran, and/or have served in the military/armed forces/National Guard/Reserves, you are invited to participate. (Unfortunately, participation is limited to one day.)
Butte County Stand Down Step-By-Step:
1. Decide which day you would like to attend. Please note that the opening ceremony will be on Thursday, 9/29, at 12 pm.
2. Arrive at the Chico Elks Lodge and register for the event. If you need transportation to the event, the VA administration will be providing it from several different pick up points around the county. We will post more information about this later.
3. After registering for the event, you will have the opportunity to meet with over 40 service providers to learn about resources you may be entitled to.
4. After meeting with service providers, you will be treated to a hot meal of hamburgers and hot dogs.
5. Following your meal, you will be provided with military gear.
Information regarding housing, Assistive Technology, counseling, health care, and more will be shared. Although all Veterans are welcome, our primary focus is to reach Veterans experiencing homelessness or who are at-risk of becoming homeless, and veterans facing food insecurity.
This year, there is an additional opportunity to participate in a one-time Listening Session and share your opinion regarding Housing, Transportation, and Health Care in our communities. The nonprofit session, sponsored by the Disability Action Center (DAC), www.actionctr.org, in partnership with The SCAN Foundation is scheduled Friday, September 30, 2022, 11:30 AM at the event.
If you would also like to volunteer, please register on the volunteer sign up on our nongovernment website: www.buttecountystanddown.org through Sunday, September 25. Otherwise, as noted above, you will register for participation on the morning you arrive.
You may be accompanied by a spouse or caregiver. Proof of your Veteran status in the form of a VA medical card, or photo ID with DD-214, is helpful. If you do not have a VA medical card or DD-214, providers will be available to check your status.
Transportation to and from the event throughout Butte County is available. B-line bus #7 stops in front of the Elks Lodge. The # 4 stops at close walking distance. Also, we will be providing limited transportation to and from the event.
