Join us on June 15-16, 2024 for an intensive weekend dance workshop BUTOH – EMBODIMENT (standing, walking, dancing) at Dock11 in Berlin!
Leading: Kokoro - Krzysztof Jerzak (https://www.facebook.com/KokoroKJ)
We start each workshop session by delving into the body - into the experiencing of the body, feeling the body, being the body. To achieve embodied presence, we use body-oriented meditation techniques and physical exercises.
Once in the embodied state, we explore different activities: standing, walking, dancing. What is a standing position? How to take a step and walk? What is dance/movement?
Starting with basic activities, we gradually open up to the possibility of unleashing spontaneous creation and authentic expression. Moving forward, we go through various butoh transformations to explore changes in the quality of the body and the depth of the mind's potentials.
Delving into a state of embodied presence helps dissolve the fixedness of our conceptual self. In this experience, the resistance to spontaneous being in the present moment diminishes and may disappear. It is entering into the state of 'don't know', which opens the gate to deep transformations and the release of the body-mind.
The weekend workshop are aimed at those interested in deepening and expanding body-mind awareness. It is aimed at beginners and those advanced in butoh practice, as well as at people who are looking for authentic movement experience and attentive presence in the body, and in relation to others. It will be useful for dancers, performers, actors, and people who practice martial arts, yoga, etc., as well as those interested in therapy through the body.
BUTOH
Japanese “modern” dance was created in the 1950s as a result of a search for new forms of expression. Its creators, Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno, negated both their own tradition (Kabuki, Bunraku, Nō) and “opposed” mass culture of the West.
In Butoh dance the body becomes a text, a record of human experience discovered through movement. Butoh creates space for direct and total self-expression.
