Butoh Workshops

Description:

Butoh is a Japanese dance-theatre that emerged in the 1960s and still thrives today. It focuses on presence, embodied imagery, unconventional body postures and embodied states. With a variety of exercises from classical butoh, theatre, physical theatre, and contemporary dance, including voice and breathwork exercises, this drop in course is designed for those interested in exploring bodily states; new forms of expression and physical symbology; the intersections between theatre, dance, and presence; and is generally excellent for anyone who wants to improve their stage presence and unique physical language. Open to all regardless of experience, but with a variety of prompts and exercises, just as useful for professional dancers, theatre makers, and performance artists, as well as those with little movement experience.

The classes are designed to be attended either as a drop in and as a full 5 week course.

Wednesdays 19:30-21:30, usually biweekly (BUT not always!)

21.08; 11.09; 25.09; 09.10; 23.10; 30.10

Price:

12-20 euros drop in / single class booked in advance.

Bundle deal: 5 classes for 50-90 euros.

The pricing is sliding scale, meaning that it is adjusted to what you can afford within the scale of 12-20 euros. If you are able to pay more, you are encouraged to do so, to balance the cost for all participants, venue, and facilitator, and to make the event accessible to more people, and allow them to continue happening.

You can also pay through eventbrite, but we aware that they charge a booking fee, and that I cannot create a sliding scale price system here, so there are only 3 price categories to choose from for drop ins: 12 euros, 15 euros, or 20 euros, or for bundle packages, 50 euros, 75 euros and 90 euros, plus eventbrite booking fees. On the link above there are no booking fees and you can adjust the price to anywhere between 12-20 euros, or 50-90 euros for the bundle package.
