This two-day workshop will walk you through all the steps in making a beautiful butcher block cutting board.
This workshop is ideal for beginners and will provide an introduction to the Wood Shop using the Butcher Block Cutting Boards as a project.
The course will cover the different types of wood you can use and address the difference and between domestic and exotic, light and dark wood species.
You will be instructed on how to prepare your wood, including the cutting, milling, and attachment.
The 2nd class will be focused on finishing: using the planner, orbital sander, mineral oil, cleaning, how to attach handles, maintenance and a short quiz about wood species.
The material used for the class may include dark walnut, redwood, poplar, aspen, maple, mahogany, white oak, and possibly cedar and hickory.
Specs for butcher block: roughly 12" by 22 "and roughly 1 1/4 thickness.
Those new to the woodshop are welcome. Please note this class is not a safety check-out for independent use at the Truckee Roundhouse. After the class, members will still need to schedule a safety check-out with a woodshop volunteer to prove their ability to use the tools independently. If this is your first woodshop class ever, we recommend taking a few classes before scheduling a safety checkout.
Class open to the public; members get 20% off.
Maximum 5 Students.
Appropriate for students ages 12 and above.
